Evaluation.

Final Evaluation

I started this project with the intention of creating an album cover for a friend’s band. However as I gathered research into album art and generated visual ideas for possible album art for the band communication with the band became almost none existent despite me asking them for feedback of possible ideas etcetera I soon realised that time was running out so I decided to re think my ideas. I decided to look at my favourite album art and decided to listen to that album to see what ideas I could think of with the music alone. This triggered me to focus on one song in particular. Having chosen the song I then listened to the song and read through the lyrics trying to pick out the more imaginative and visual aspects of the song. It wasn’t until I listened to ‘in my field of paper flowers’ that I thought why don’t I try and make paper flowers. This spare of the moment idea set the scene for the rest of the project. Having decided on a path to go down I then set about looking up various types of origami that I could use to potentially create my own ‘field of paper flowers’. With this in mind I needed to find a moderately simple style of origami I started off by making a kusudama flower, this was simple to make each section of the flower but when I began to stick each section together I came into difficulty. I then decided to make a traditional tulip. The folding process of the flower was more complex in comparison to the kusudama flower but the tulip didn’t require any sticking together making the tulip the flower of choice. It is a simple flower that I could produce in vast amounts given that it takes a couple of minutes to construct each flower. Once I decided on the type of flower I would focus on I turned my attention to what paper I would make them out of. At first this started off by using plain cartridge paper. I used this just until I was used to the folds of the flower and was confident enough to produce the flowers. I then moved onto creating flowers out of coloured paper and textured papers. Having produced a number of flowers like this I then went and looked through a pile of papers I inherited from my grandmother, these consisted of square pieces of floral and mixed colours/patterns. I looked through them and picked out the ones which I felt would fit in with the theme of flowers. I then made flowers out of the paper. I then felt it would be nice if I designed my own paper. These designed papers printed out well and really add a unique twist to my final piece and it also allowed me to relate the actual paper to the song and band my final piece related to. Having finished the project I think my final piece has turned out different that originally intended but better and much more aesthetically pleasing to a wider audience. If I was to re-create the project or do a similar thing I would design more of my own papers and create a wider range of sizes of flowers.
photographs of other flowers i made.

once i made loads of flowers i then set about thinking of alternative ways to display them ready for exhibition standard.
after i played around with various outcomes i decided for my final piece to use a spiral as my main shape to arrange the flowers around. i then grouped the colours together so that it faded from white into blacks then from black to purple into pink finally finishing with red. the main reason for selecting these colours relate to other lyrics within the song i chose to base my project on. the song relates to  purple skies, so i have chosen to use purples and colours within purple to create the colour scheme.

health and safety

 HEALTH AND SAFETY!!!!!!

MAIN THINGS I NEED TO BE AWARE OF WHEN USING C.A.D ( computer aided design) AND CONSTRUCING ORIGARMI AND CONSTUCTING MY FINAL PIECE.

To start i will bullet point the various things i need to take into consideration when using my laptop to produce work.
  • Ensure that I do not spend too long at the computer designing. (need to take breaks from it)
  • I also need to make sure that the lighing in the room doenst start a headache.
  • I also need to be aware of how my back is composed when spending considerable amount of time at the computer.
  • i need to make sure that any laptop wires are safely made aware of to prevent possible trips and falls.
When i'm constructing flowers i need to consider the following:

  • i need to take care when cutting out the paper so that i dont cut myself.
  • i aslo need to  take care when folding paper to ensure i dont get a papercut.

when i'm using the glue gun i need to take care not to burn myself or others.

step by step. construction.

How i constructed a paper tulip.

here are images of me making a tulip step by step  along side a video that explains the process ( i'll be honest i just folowed the images its really simple to make.)

i started by using this image which was 15cm x15 cm

here i blew into the centre point to inflate the flower.

and there you have the finshed tulip.

Photographs of flowers i've taken.

here are photographs i've taken of my own flowers in the garden.
