using band logos to create album designs.

I started of by drawing out the lacuna coil band logo. i then used water soluble ink pencils to create the colour and texture. i then scanned it in to develop it more.

when i scanned the drawing in i decided to remove the background colour. i did this so i was able to add another background without there being unwanted textures and marks from the paper. i used the erraser tool to start off with. the reason for using this slow method is to achieve a fine edge easily. it also gave me more control of what sections to remove and what to keep intact.

once i had removed the majority of the background from arround the logo itsself i then used another tool to remove the remaining background quickly.

i used the pollygonal lasso tool to remove the remaining background. i chose this tool because it allows me to select a large area and delete the section in one go saving me time. i didnt choose this tool to remove the majority of the background because it didnt allow me to get the close detail just how i wanted it.

once the background was totally removed i then went on to develop the logo into a possible album design.

i then created a new document where i set the size to the measurements of a cd case. i filled the background in black before inserting the logo design as a new layer.

i altered the levels of the image to make the shadows more visible i then altered the hue and saturation to perfect the colour.  once i was happy with the design i flattened the image ready for it to be moved into illustrator where i can ad the text.
