Instead of creating designs for an album, I have decided to
use the lyrics within some of my favourite songs to create ideas for artwork. By
doing this I hope to create a wider range of artwork with greater results than I
have created so far within this project. I will also be looking at the music
videos of some songs to help generate ideas and compare the bands ideas with my
own ideas surrounding the songs that I choose. I am going to start this process
by looking into various albums. By listening to the albums for a set amount of
times I will then draw things that come to mind as I am listening to the music
and lyrics. After I have gathered these drawings I am then going to scan them
in and develop the images within Photoshop.
I am going to select a list of my top 5 bands from that list
I will pick out one or two albums from that band to generate ideas from. The list
below shows the five bands I’ve chosen along with the album/s I have selected.

Now that I have decided on the
albums I am going to focus on I will listen to them all once and draw whatever
comes to mind.
The first album I have selected
is Evanescence’s The Open Door. I have chosen this album because I know that
their music uses lots of imagery within the lyrics which I am hoping will
create successful outcomes. The second album The Silent Force by Within
Temptation happened to be the album I was listening to when I thought of the
idea to create artwork from the music and not just create artwork for the front
cover of a cd case. This album contains lyrics that have deep and powerful
meanings so it would be quite interesting to see what things I’ll end up
drawing during the time of listening to it. The third album I've chosen
contrasts against the previous two in terms of tempo of the music and lyrically
very different. So I am looking forward to seeing what the outcome will be. The
next album I chose mainly because I like the album art and how the music doesn’t
really fit in too much with the design of the album, I am unsure of what the
outcome will be. The final album I’ve chosen is Emillie Autumn’s Enchant. The main
reason for choosing this album is because when I looked on my itunes it came up
as the album I played most therefore it seemed a good choice.
